Chennai: Human Resource Minister Prakash Javadekar has revealed that the government is all set to introduce four-year integrated Bachelor in Education (B.Ed) from the next year with the intention of improving teaching standards in schools across the country.

Speaking at a two-day conference organised for principals of Kendra Vidyalaya and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas, the Minister said that teaching standards remains low as becoming a teacher is the last career option for many. But, teaching should be considered as professional career choice rather than being the last option.

The to be introduced, new integrated B.Ed course will go along with three streams – BA, B.Com and BSc. The National Council for Teacher Education (NCET), the statutory body responsible to oversee teacher education in the country has overhauled the entire curriculum for B.Ed.

Taking up integrated B.Ed studies will save one year of studies as against the present system of first completing Under Graduation and then doing two-year B.Ed.
