IIT Guwahati's campus is on an extensive 285 hectares plot of land 20 kms away from the northern bank of the river Brahmaputra. Indian Institute of Technology established in 1994, commenced its academic programmes in 1995. At present the Institute offers B. Tech., B. Des., M. Tech., Ph.D. and M.Sc. programmes. Within a short period of time, IIT Guwahati has been able to build up its necessary infrastructure. Students' hostels, faculty and staff quarters, and a guesthouse are within the campus.
