Introduction:

The Raja Ramanna Centre for Advanced Technology, Indore is part of the Department of Atomic Energy, Govt. of India that carries out research and development in lasers, particle accelerators and other associated technologies. The institute is growing continuously and its area of research work, in science and technology is also transcending new horizons with each passing year. Initially known as the Centre for Advanced Technology, the centre came to be known as the Raja Ramanna Centre for Advanced Technology, in January 2006.

 

The Centre for Advanced Technology was set up with the purpose of gaining adequate and appropriate knowledge in the field of advanced technology with emphasis on lasers and accelerators. The RRCAT has done commendable work and delivered high quality components thereby projecting India among the top nations of the world in the related field of study.


The recruitment policy of the RRCAT supports the intake of fresh, young and talented candidates. Since the beginning of the 9th Five Year Plan, i.e. from 1997, many new projects in the area of lasers, accelerators as well as cryogenics and computers have taken shape and this has brought in many fresh Scientific Officers, Scientific Assistants and Tradesmen


The RRCAT has a training school known as the Advanced Technology Training School, which prepares newly inducted engineers and scientists to take up research and developmental activities in the major areas of lasers, cryogenics, superconductivity, plasma physics and other related fields in the various sections of the Department of Atomic Energy.

Following are the features of the training course

  • It is of one year duration
  • It is a residential course
  • It consists of lectures, laboratory and project work
  • Trainees are given a monthly stipend of Rs. 8,000/- and a one time book allowance of Rs. 4000/-

Once the training is completed, the trainees are given appointments as Grade C, Scientific Officers in any one of the following centers:

  • Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai
  • Raja Ramanna Centre for Advanced Technology, Indore
  • Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research, Kalpakkam
