UPSC conducts this exam and fills the engineering vacancies arising in the various central government departments. The need for engineering departments are classified into important divisions like Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering and the fitting candidates are selected. This exam is also highly competitive like the civil services exam. It is important to have passed Engineering degree.
Those currently studying second year can also apply. You should be 21 years of age and should not be more than 30 years of age. Age relaxation based on community is permitted. Those belonging to SC/ST community are eligible for 5 years relaxation, OBC candidates are eligible for 3 years of relaxation. Application towards this is available at the Post office.
This exam is conducted in two parts. First part is the written exam that comprises of 2 papers. First paper is objective type exam and the second one is the written paper. These two papers comprises of questions from the engineering subject of your choice, general knowledge and general ability. Those who pass these written exams are given employment opportunity after a formal interview.
