CHENNAI: Tamilnadu Government is hopeful to get 200 more M.B.B.S. seats this year.
If the Medical Council of India grants recognition to new medical colleges at Tiruvarur and Villupuram, 200 extra MBBS seats will available for admission to students, Health Minister M.R.K. Panneerselvam announced.
Speaking to reporters, Mr. Panneerselvam said that an MCI team had inspected the premises of both colleges and was expected to give its report by June-end. If the two colleges got the MCI node, a total of 170 seats will be available for students from Tamil Nadu and 30 seats will go to the all india Quota.
While the total number of MBBS seats in the 15 government medical colleges is 1745 and 262 seats will be surrendered to the all India quota, leaving 1,483 seats for the State quota. In addition, a total of 251 seats will be available from the four private medical colleges for the government quota.
85 seats are available in Government Dental College after surrendering 15 seats to the all India quota and a total of 847 seats are being made available from 17 self-financing dental colleges for Government Quota.
